First Communion Preparation

Grade 2 | St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish

Two pathways. One sacrament. One journey with Jesus.

We are honored to walk with your family as your child prepares to receive First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. This is a sacred and joyful step in your child’s faith journey, and we are here to support both parents and children every step of the way.

For children not attending St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School:

  • Attend Sunday formation sessions throughout the year

  • First session: Sunday, October 4

  • Held in the church meeting rooms

  • Parents attend monthly Parent Sessions

This pathway provides full sacramental preparation through parish sessions.

Parish Program (Sunday Sessions)

For children attending St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School:

  • Preparation takes place during religion class

  • No Sunday sessions required for students

  • Formation is integrated into the school day

  • Parents attend monthly Parent Sessions

This ensures consistent and age-appropriate preparation within the classroom.

SEAS School Students

All parents—regardless of pathway—are required to attend parent sessions throughout the year.

These sessions are essential and will:

  • Help you understand the sacraments

  • Equip you to support your child at home

  • Deepen your own faith

Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith, and your presence matters.

2, 16 - The Sacrament of First Communion

  • Throughout the year, students will prepare for the sacraments in two parts:

    • In the fall (October–January), they will prepare for First Reconciliation

    • In the spring (January–May), they will prepare for First Communion

This formation follows two 12-week programs, with the same weekly sessions offered either on Sundays or during the school day.

  • One parent or guardian from each family is required to attend all parent sessions throughout the year. These gatherings are essential in helping you support your child’s preparation and grow in your own understanding of the sacraments.

    Parent Session Dates:

    • Sunday, October 4

    • Sunday, November 8

Parent Participation (Required for ALL Families)

Before beginning preparation, children must:

  • Have completed at least one year of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)

OR

  • Be enrolled in SEAS School

This ensures a strong foundation in faith and readiness for the sacraments.

Prerequisites

Throughout the year, your family will:

  • Grow in understanding of the Eucharist and God’s love

  • Learn how to participate more deeply in the Mass

  • Prepare spiritually for First Communion

  • Build habits of prayer at home

This is not just preparation—it is the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Jesus.

What to Expect

A Note to Parents

Whether your child prepares through Sunday sessions or at school, your role is essential. The most important preparation your child receives comes from your witness of faith, your presence at Mass, and your commitment to this journey.
