Inspired by Her Legacy.
Born 1774 in NYC, widowed with five children, she converted to Catholicism in 1805, founded the first U.S. religious women’s community (Sisters of Charity), and Catholic parochial school system - intended to meet real needs through faith and service. She walked in hope through tragedy, loss, and change - becoming an enduring model of resilient faith.
This anniversary reminds us: we too are called to be “pilgrims of hope” as Pope Francis highlighted for Jubilee Year 2025
